Another day, another story
Just wanted to make sure that I mentioned that Shred of Evidence has published one of my stories. It's a little tale called "The Inspector." The title character is based, in part on a pastor I had in the Bronx when I was a child. He was a meat inspector and sometimes came to church striaght from work, wearing his uniform and gun. He had the sweetest temper, but the gun... well, I suppose that kept some members in line at least. Anyway, take a look at the story if you have the chance.

And a very nice story it is. Who knew meat inspectors had so much power?
I think the real question is who knew there was so much potential danger in being a meat inspector. One doesn't normally think of the fact that a single meat inspector could shut down an entire meat processing plant, impose huge fines, and cause tons (literally) of meat to be discarded. No wonder my pastor carried a gun.
I just read The Inspector. Great story. I was hooked from the start. Clear writing and excellent characterisation. Very economical too.
This says a whole lot in only a few words:
"The question came from Hector Pareda in his second month on the job."
Just thought I should tell you how much I enjoyed it.
